The original soundtrack was published by Walt Disney Records on compact disc as well as vinyl record. The soundtrack includes 21 tracks, which give a total runtime of over 69 minutes.

A chorus is used for the tracks "Your Father Would Be Proud" and "Hope," which plays in the film as its protagonists and other members of the Rebel Alliance meet their death. The Rogue One soundtrack also makes extensive use of dies irae, which forms a significant part of Jyn Erso's theme.Īlthough the musical score does not begin with the " Star Wars Main Title" as with the Star Wars saga films, the Main Title is briefly played in the track "Scrambling the Rebel Fleet," when C-3PO and R2-D2 appears on screen. In addition to developing new themes and motifs such as the The Imperial Suite and the messenger motif, the film score incorporates leitmotifs from John Williams' Star Wars scores, particularly those from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. It was released on December 16, 2016, the same day as the film itself. I'm particularly sad that there's really nothing musically memorable from the Battle of Scarif. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story soundtrack was composed by Michael Giacchino for the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The R1 soundtrack was good, but not great. Like you I think Giacchino bought himself a second chance. If this is really the beginning of the Rebellion, the first battle they've won, then it'd be nice if they had a march or something similar to that. And I liked what Giacchino did with the Rogue One track but was hoping that he'd do something more fully with the Rebel Fanfare, fleshing out Williams' famous, but brief hook. I wanted more Williams in this thing overall. (I think I'm remembering that right but correct me if I'm wrong.) The way that whole scene moves from Galen's hologram to the preparations for the DS test on Jedha City and the slow piano musical accompaniment is wonderful. I think I'd quibble with your take on Star-Dust though. That's a good quick analysis, it looks like we had many of the same feelings (about the Jedha Ambush on the one hand, and Your Father Would Be Proud on the other). A lot of it's just loud horns with no memorable hooks or rhythms. More tracks from the FYC disc could be added to this, but I didn't think it was all that musically interesting enough. I added the ending of the Jyn suite because it's a proper Williamsian ending leading directly into the original Main Title for proper listening in canonical order. I don't know that the film version of the Finale was taken from TFA (I'm guessing it was just re-recorded so the transitions could be smooth from Williams to Giacchino), but that's the shortest version of it that I have and I figured there's no reason to draw things out any further. The Force Awakens OST "Jedi Steps and Finale".

Guardians of the Whills Suite - There's no other place for this to go, and it lines up well with the FYC track "Hearts of Kyber" (but is obviously longer). The Imperial Suite - I substituted this for "When Has Become Now" because that track sounds cartoony at points and this one is a better listen overall, but YMMV.Tracks are from the OST unless otherwise marked: Here's a quick and dirty suggested playlist. Anybody have any clue how one might go about doing the same thing?Įdit: I figured it out myself! Here are the links (directly from Disney's site, so it's all legit) to the individual tracks.

Disney did the same thing last year for the TFA score and some people over at were able to figure out a way to download the files. There are some differeances between the OST and this.
